Achilles was a Greek hero of the Trojan War and the greatest warrior of Homer's Iliad. Achilles' is most notably remembered for his death. According to legends, Achilles was invulnerable in all of his body except for his heel because, when his mother Thetis dipped him in the river Styx as an infant, she held him by one of his heels which was reinforced by the fact that in the Trojan War he fought valiantly, yet was defeated by an arrow to the heel. Here we see him poised and ready to battle, spear in one hand and shield on the other.
